Clio's letters to her litter mate

  Dear Ness,
I have spent a month at school and just arrived home yesterday. School was fun I supposed there were a lot of other dogs living there and at first I seemed to be the only one to mess up all the time.
Remember when we used to play run around the circle living room dining room kitchen until we ran so fast you slammed your head into the wall and I peed. That happened a lot when I first arrived at school. I wasn't chasing  you but I chased other dogs sometimes and forgot to go outside to pee. It wasn't my fault because I was concentrating so hard on where I was going.
Have you ever met an English Mastiff?  They are the biggest dogs on earth I suppose and I was terrified when I first met one. They don't play much but they don't really make a  problem either.
I bet you are having fun with your family  in Ontario.
The best part of school was going to the river. Turns out I am a really great swimmer. The teacher said I was a natural.  You have your own lake. Do  you like swimming. Maybe I could visit. I really miss another doodle my size.
I play with Maizie but she is so big she sits on my head all the time and chews my ear. Liza, who is small likes to play sometimes but whatever we play she wins. You let me win sometimes and that was really fun.
Maybe when I have a family I will be closer to you.
Love
Clio,
PS    I had my hair done to come home and even had a bow. The bow came out somewhere and I got my scarf wet and muddy in the sprinkler but these are pictures the moms took before I got to play.

Dear Clio,

I would have recognized you anywhere if we bumped into each other rump-to-rump but it’s great to see your pictures! What a blond bombshell you are. I would have to do some serious ‘primping’ to have you want to claim me as your sister. Either that or you could just tag me as the unkempt one….I’m OK with that.

It sounds like you’ve been busy with all your schooling and elder-visiting. I’ve been just doing the home-school thing and, from the enthusiastic reactions I get from people who meet me I figure I’m doing alright. They don’t seem as keen when I jump up on them (especially after mudpuddling). As much as I’ll never understand humans need to be clean, I’m trying to contain myself to four feet on the ground (boring!).

Having said that, I live in this wonderful place where I can explore, chase squirrels, meet tons of little people, dabble in the lake (still not that keen to swim but I do occasionally just to prove myself), and romp with neighbour dogs. (These dogs are not nearly as fun as my Grand Forks family but I pretend for their sakes.) I even get to ride in a boat sometimes. I’m good at knowing that canoeing is for being calm and motorboats is for having your ears flap in the wind.

I gather you’re going to be moving away sometime soon. I’ll do my best to see if there’s anyone in our area who might have a place for you. I can’t imagine that people wouldn’t be fighting over you. I’m told all the time that I was the most socialized, relaxed, secure, well-mannered puppy ever and that Liz and Jean had obviously done an incredible job as breeders. As soon as other people know that, they’re going to want you big time!! And you’ll be fine – it’s hard to leave home but, based on my experience, it’s pretty cool to see and be loved by the rest of the world.

Just a little more bragging – my green eyes get admired regularly along with my teddy bear coat. I weigh about 28 pounds at 5 ½ months (I LOVE my food). I was completely fine in my crate but have now moved to a ‘big girl’ bed. I sleep through the night no problem and, right from the beginning, figured out that squatting happens on grass not rugs. And I’ve learned that people really like me to show off my ‘tricks’ for other people. (I think it makes them feel smart when I show how smart I am!).

Glad we figured out this blog thing….feels good to stay in touch. I hope someone soon realizes what a find you will be!!

Tail wags and furry smiles,

Ness
